Lauryn Noelle Hill (born May 26, 1975) is an American singer-songwriter, rapper, record producer, and actress. Hill's music career began after Pras Michael and his cousin Wyclef Jean approached her during high school to front hip-hop group The Fugees. She also began acting; rising to national prominence portraying Rita Watson in Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1993) and other minor rroles. The Fugees disbanded in 1997 with its members working on solo-projects; Hill subsequently released her only studio album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998). Considered by Rolling Stone to be one of the 500 greatest albums of all time, it received critical acclaim, sold 19 million copies and earned five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.
Hill co-produced the commercially successful Supernatural for Carlos Santana, in 1999, for which she won another Grammy for Album of the Year, making her the only female artist to win the award consecutively and set a record for most wins of the award (later equaled by Norah Jones). Shortly after, Hill entered a period out of public view, in part due to her displeasure with fame and the music industry. After a four-year hiatus, she released MTV Unplugged No. 2.0 (2002), a live recording of "deeply personal songs" performed mostly solo with an acoustic guitar. Hill's subsequent activity has been sporadic since; she has recorded songs for soundtracks and mixtapes, as well as performing live at several music festivals, such as Coachella. She has also collaborated with artists, such as Ronald Isley and Joss Stone. In 2013, Hill was sentenced to three months imprisonment for tax evasion by the State of New Jersey.
She has six children, five of whom are with Rohan Marley, son of reggae musician Bob Marley.

Hill is a member of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church in communion with the Oriental Orthodox Church, and has been involved with the Rastafari movement. Hill dated Wyclef Jean throughout the majority of the Fugees' early tenure, a relationship that friends have called "complicated." In the summer of 1996, Hill met Rohan Marley, the son of reggae legend Bob Marley. Hill and Marley started a family. They have five children together: Zion David (born August 3, 1997), Selah Louise (November 12, 1998), Joshua Omaru (January 26, 2002), John Nesta (mid-2003), and Sarah (January 2008). She also has a son, Micah (born July 23, 2011), with another man.
